Report: Yankees make major changes to training staff after injury-filled season

The New York Yankees are not resting on their laurels after landing big fish free agent Gerrit Cole back in December.

New York wants to make sure that its star-studded roster is healthy after an injury-plagued 2019 campaign.

According to Lindsey Adler of The Athletic, this means sweeping changes to the organization’s training and strength-conditioning staffs.

“Their next move will be significant,” the report read. “The Yankees have hired Eric Cressey, a well-known and highly sought after performance coach, to oversee their training and strength-and-conditioning departments.”

The likes of Gary Sanchez, Didi Gregorius, Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton missed a combined 340 games to injury last season. That doesn’t even take into account pitchers Luis Severino and Dellin Betances being out for pretty much the entire 2019 campaign.

In hiring Cressey, the Yankees are bringing in a well-known performance expert with a ton of experience in this field. He also has a built-in relationship with members of the organization.

According to Adler, Cressey’s podcast “Elite Baseball Development” has had guests such as Adam Ottavino and Mike King, along with team doctor Chris Ahmad.
