As the Cleveland Browns search for their next head coach begins drawing to a close with their last interview on Friday, candidate Josh McDaniels could reportedly be the choice if his interview goes well.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, McDaniels and his wife Laura made the trip to Cleveland for his interview with the team. If all goes well during his interview and both sides believe it’s a fit, McDaniels could potentially be chosen today.

Reports emerged early this week that the Browns wanted to name a new head coach before the weekend. After interviewing Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz and Minnesota Vikings offensive Kevin Stefanski on Wednesday and Thursday, McDaniels is the final candidate expected to be interviewed.

The 43-year-old coach is looking for the right opportunity after lasting just two seasons with the Denver Broncos (2009-’10). He has served as the New England Patriots’ offensive coordinator since 2012.

Of course, McDaniels accepting a potential offer from the Browns doesn’t guarantee he’d become the head coach. He was set to become the Indianapolis Colts head coach in 2018 before backing out after agreeing to terms on a contract.

Obviously, it’s unlikely that happens again. However, the Browns and McDaniels have proven that crazy things can happen. For now, though, it appears like he’s emerging as the leading candidate to become Cleveland’s next head coach.
