Boston Red Sox outfielder Mookie Betts has landed a record-setting $27 million in arbitration after agreeing to a one-year contract with the Boston Red Sox.
The news, reported by ESPN’s Jeff Passan, breaks Colorado Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado’s record of $26 million last year.
After winning the AL MVP in 2018, Betts continued to perform at an incredible level this past season. A four-time All-Star and Gold Glove Award recipient, he hit 29 home runs with 80 RBI and a .915 OPS this past year.
While he remains the subject of trade rumors, it appears increasingly likely that he starts for the Red Sox in Opening Day in the upcoming season. He will become a free agent at the end of the 2020 season.
