MLB world reacts to Red Sox firing Alex Cora

Alex Cora

The Boston Red Sox fired manager Alex Cora on Tuesday night. The news came just a day after the baseball world was rocked by MLB’s findings regarding the Houston Astros electronic sign-stealing.

The report, which led to the termination of Houston’s manager A.J. Hinch and general manager Jeff Luhnow, exposed how the Astros used the video replay room to steal opponents’ signs during the 2017 season. The report also detailed Cora’s prominent role in the tactics, which ultimately led to his dismissal from Boston.

Cora, who escaped initial discipline from MLB, is likely headed for a far harsher punishment than Hinch received. The Red Sox opted to avoid the distraction and pending fate that would hang around them into spring training, but discipline is still likely coming if MLB’s investigation determines they stole signs in 2018.

As news broke of Cora’s firing, making him the second skipper with a recent World Series championship to be let go, the baseball world erupted with reactions to the wild sequence of events in MLB.
