Jake Fromm declared for the 2020 NFL Draft, leaving a huge vacancy under center for the Georgia Bulldogs. Former Wake Forest quarterback Jamie Newman could be a replacement.
And based on some amateur and professional sleuthing, that may very well be happening. David Wellham of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution shared Friday that a “Jamie La’Jai Newman from Graham, N.C. (the hometown of the Wake Forest quarterback) has enrolled at Georgia.
“Searches by multiple UGA students, and verified by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, of the UGA online student directory Friday evening produced the name, ‘Jamie La’Jai Newman.’ A search of the online student directory at Wake Forest produced a student by the name of ‘Jamie La’Jai Montrel Newman’ from Graham, N.C., which is the hometown of the Deacons quarterback.”
With Fromm leaving, the Bulldogs are clearly hurting for a viable replacement. Justin Fields’ transfer to Ohio State put this into motion last year, and Fromm’s decision sparked a huge need for Georgia.
Newman, if he is indeed enrolling, could be a nice bridge until Dwan Mathis, a top 150 recruit in 2019, is potentially ready to play after recovering from surgery to remove a cyst on his brain.
In three seasons for the Demon Deacons, Newman passed for 3,959 yards with 35 touchdowns and 16 interceptions.
