Davante Adams: Packers have ‘better way to attack’ dynamic 49ers defense compared to midseason blowout

Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

The Green Bay Packers were blown out by the San Francisco 49ers, who won by the score of 37-8 in late November. Now these teams are dueling once more for the right to go to Super Bowl LIV, and Packers receiver Davante Adams thinks things will be much different on Sunday than they were during the regular season.

Speaking with the media on Wednesday, Adams made it clear he believes his team has a better plan of attack this time around.

“Obviously if we left the game with eight points and lost by 20s or whatever it was, obviously the plan wasn’t good enough,” Adams said, per ESPN. “That’s not a knock on Matt or anybody. The execution obviously wasn’t good enough, too, so those go hand in hand, though. The plan, so far what I’ve seen, I really like, and I think it’s a better way to attack this defense.”

It’s worth pointing out that star offensive tackle Bryan Bulaga was out for that game in November. Then again, it’s also salient to note that 49ers speed rusher Dee Ford was not playing, too, and his impact in San Francisco’s victory over Minnesota last Saturday cannot be overstated.

Everyone has a game plan until they get punched in the mouth.

It’s going to be fascinating to see what kind of adjustments rookie head coach Matt LaFleur and his staff have made for the NFC Championship Game. If they can figure out how to keep Aaron Rodgers clean in the pocket, and if Adams has another game like he did last weekend against the Seattle Seahawks, then the Packers have a chance to knock off the NFC’s top seed in its own home.
