After missing season with blood clots in lungs, Patriots’ David Andrews hopes to play in 2020

David Andrews hospitalized

The New England Patriots were without the services of star center David Andrews the entire 2019 season due to blood clots in his lungs. Looking ahead to next season, however, Andrews is eyeing a return and says he feels “great.”

ESPN’s Mike Reiss shared the following quote from Andrews: “I feel great. I have a bunch of doctors’ appointments in February, [hopefully] get all that cleared up, and be good to go for next year.”

Losing Andrews was a massive blow to the Patriots this past season (more on that here). A former undrafted rookie out of Georgia, he has been the starting center for New England since 2015, appearing in three Super Bowls and winning two.

Needless to say, if Andrews can return to action without any ill effects from his ordeal, the Patriots will be in better shape up front. Whether that helps Tom Brady in 2020 remains to be seen, as there’s a ton of scuttlebutt around the league that he may want to try something new.
