Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback and future Hall of Famer Ben Roethlisberger has yet to start throwing again after undergoing surgery on his ailing throwing elbow early in the season.

Given the type of injury Big Ben suffered, that can’t be considered too much of a surprise. Undergoing UCL surgery on your elbow is normally limited to baseball players. Seeing Roethlisberger dealing with said injury has raised questions about his future in the NFL.

Now, according to this report from ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, Roethlisberger himself has some doubts about whether he’ll ever play again.

“I’ve talked to people who have spoken with him, and he has some doubt whether he’s really gonna play football again,” the report read (h/t Bleacher Report).

Roethlisberger, 37, had been as steady as a rock for the Steelers prior to going down back in Week 2. In fact, he missed a total of 11 games over the previous eight seasons.

With Big Ben sidelined, Pittsburgh has been forced to go with a combination of Mason Rudolph and undrafted rookie free agent Devlin Hodges. Despite some great coaching from Mike Tomlin, it has these Steelers on the verge of being eliminated from postseason contention heading into Week 17.

Roethlisberger’s uneasiness could also potentially lead to Pittsburgh going quarterback at some point early in the 2020 NFL Draft.
