Lakers head coach expects Anthony Davis to win Defensive Player of the Year

Anthony Davis Defensive Player of the Year

Anthony Davis and the Los Angeles Lakers are off to a tremendous start ot the 2019-20 campaign. They enter Tuesday’s action against the Denver Nuggets with a Western Conference best 17-3 record.

Despite his stellar play on offense, Davis’ performance on the other end of the court in his first season with the Lakers is what has stood out.

It’s led to Lakers head coach Frank Vogel concluding that AD could very well win Defensive Player of the Year.

While this might seem subjective based on his role as Davis’ head coach, Vogel could be on to something here.

The MVP candidate ranks second among NBA players in defensive win shares and fourth in defensive rating.

In addition to the big man averaging 26.1 points, he’s also putting up nearly 10 rebounds, 2.8 blocks and 1.5 steals per game. These are great numbers from every perspective.

This also has Los Angeles as legit title contenders, especially given that LeBron James has once again decided to play defense.
