Joe Burrow’s Heisman speech helps raise nearly $160,000 for the needy

Joe Burrow Heisman speech

LSU quarterback Joe Burrow earned the Heisman Trophy on Saturday night in resounding fashion.

Given how dominant the likely No. 1 overall pick and his top-ranked Tigers were during the regular season, that’s not too much of a surprise.

It was, however, Burrow’s speech from New York City while accepting the award that stood out. The quarterback raised awareness about the plight of the poor in his hometown of Athens County, OH. It came as he was holding back tears.

“There’s so many people there that don’t have a lot and I’m up here for all those kids in Athens and Athens County that go home to not a lot of food on the table, hungry after school,” an emotional Burrows said. “You guys can be up here too.”

This speech has now helped raise nearly $160,000 for the Athens County Food Pantry after someone set up a fundraiser on Facebook.

Talk about putting something dear to you on the front burner. This is going to help countless needy families in Burrow’s hometown as the holidays come and go.

Using this platform to help those in need tells us everything we need to know about Burrow. Whoever drafts him in April is not going to be simply getting a great quarterback. Said team will be acquiring a young man ready to help his adopted community.

Just great stuff.
