The Baltimore Ravens are seemingly in good spirits following a blowout 41-7 win over the Houston Texans on Sunday.
It’s a game that saw MVP candidate Lamar Jackson vastly outplay Deshaun Watson, both through the air and on the ground.
The backdrop to this game was the matchup between these two young quarterbacks who have transformed the position.
Prior to the game itself, Hall of Fame signal caller Steve Young indicated that Jackson needs to model his game more around Watson and throw from the pocket.
“I think until further notice to play championship football, you’re gonna have to be the orchestrator from the pocket,” Young said prior to last Monday night’s game. “You can’t make enough plays, as electrifying as they are, and proven by Deshaun Watson, he should watch Deshaun Watson.”
Fresh off a brilliant performance from Jackson, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh was having none of this criticism. In fact, he went directly at Young as a “so-called expert.”
Given that Young himself was known for winning on the ground with some absurd runs throughout his playing career, these were some odd comments.
As it relates to how Sunday’s game turned out, Jackson made history en route to compiling 308 total yards. He also threw four touchdown passes and has 19 scores through the air compared to five interceptions in 10 starts as a sophomore.
What Jackson seems to be doing right now is working for the 8-2 Ravens. Why change it?
