Falcons stars Devonta Freeman, Austin Hooper both to miss time with injuries

The Atlanta Falcons shocked the NFL on Sunday by beating the New Orleans Saints, but they also lost running back Devonta Freeman to a foot injury and Austin Hooper to a knee injury.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, Freeman could miss “about two weeks with a foot sprain.”

The good news is that the injury isn’t major. The bad news is that Freeman continues to be someone the Falcons cannot count on to stay healthy. The past three seasons, Freeman has missed multiple games due to injuries, including almost all of last year due to a knee injury and then a groin injury, which required surgery.

Additionally, the Falcons will be without star tight end Hooper, who suffered an MCL sprain and will have a second opinion to see how much time he’ll miss.

Likely, Hooper will be out at least as long as Freeman, if not longer.

The Falcons improved to 2-7 on the season with their Week 10 victory over the Saints. These injuries mean other players will need to step up in a big way if that record is going to improve over the next couple of weeks.
