WATCH: Jets’ Sam Darnold gives up a safety on purpose

It’s hard to explain what happened to New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold Monday night. One week after leading his team to an upset over the Dallas Cowboys, the second-year quarterback was atrocious.

Apparently seeing ghosts on the field against the New England Patriots, Darnold turned the ball over five times before three quarters were even over.

Down 24-0 in the second half, he actually took a safety after a ball was snapped over his head in the end zone.

You can’t make this stuff up.

Darnold was purposely giving the Patriots two points because he didn’t want their defense to score another touchdown. That’s something you simply don’t see every day.

New England’s defense has now given up one passing touchdown pass compared to 18 interceptions on the season. That seems pretty good.
