Stephen Strasburg to start Game 2 of NLDS on two days rest

Less than 72 hours after Stephen Strasburg came out of the bullpen and threw three shutout innings in the wild-card game, Washington will turn to its co-ace for Game 2 of the NLDS.

Washington’s skipper Davey Martinez announced before Thursday’s Game 1 opener against the Los Angeles Dodgers that Strasburg will get the nod for Friday’s start.

Strasburg’s first relief appearance of his professional career also came in the most critical moment against the Milwaukee Brewers. He delivered three shutout innings on only 34 pitches, helping put Washington in position to win and himself to pitch in this upcoming game.

Strasburg’s brilliant and effective work on Tuesday will allow him to avoid being on a pitch count on Friday. Taking the mound in Game 2 also will enable him to start a potential Game 5, if necessary, on full rest.
