Mike McCarthy, Byron Leftwich favorites to be Redskins new head coach

The Washington Redskins have yet to officially move on from embattled head coach Jay Gruden.

Given the team’s lack of success this season and Gruden’s attitude, that could very well come as early as Sunday night. The winless Redskins host an undefeated Patriots squad this week.

Another blowout loss would likely end Gruden’s tenure in the nation’s capital.

If so, Vegas’ betting odds are out to become the Redskins’ next head coach. A couple interesting names in that of former Packers head coach Mike McCarthy and Buccaneers offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich head the list.

Some of these names would not inspire much confidence from a worn down Redskins fan base. That’s especially true when we look at retreads such as Caldwell and Whisenhunt.

Either way, the Skins are going to have an interim head coach at some point soon. That could very well be defensive line coach Jim Tomsula.

Once the season is over, a wide-ranging search for a long-term replacement will be the name of the game in the nation’s capital.
