Braves P Chris Martin expected to miss remainder of the playoffs

Atlanta Braves reliever Chris Martin’s postseason is likely over before it even started.

The veteran entered Thursday night in Game 1 of the National League Divisional Series against the St. Louis Cardinals in the eighth inning. He did not throw a single pitch before leaving with an oblique injury.

This pretty much opened the floodgates for St. Louis to pull off a comeback win in Atlanta.

There’s no real good news on this front. According to various media reports, Martin is expected to miss the remainder of the playoffs.

Acquired from the Texas Rangers in a mid-season trade, Martin has acted as a set-up man for Atlanta this year. He pitched to a 4.08 ERA with a 1.02 WHIP while striking out 22 batters in just 17.2 innings during the regular year.

While the Braves have not yet announced who will replace Martin on the roster for the remainder of this series, Opening Day starter Julio Teherán seems to be the logical choice.
