Mets give into Noah Syndergaard with playoff chances fading

What has been a season-long spat between ace starter Noah Syndergaard and the New York Mets took on new meaning recently.

Syndergaard expressed his opposition to continue having Wilson Ramos catch his starts, at which point manager Mickey Callaway fired back publicly.

The All-Star pitcher is not comfortable with Ramos behind the plate. He’d rather the Mets give him a different catcher to call games.

That’s now coming to fruition. According to this report, Rene Rivera will catch Syndergaard’s start Wednesday against the Colorado Rockies.

Syndergaard has pitched to Rivera just once this season. It resulted in him going seven scoreless innings while striking out 10 in a win over the Washington Nationals earlier this month.

The veteran starter boasts an inflated 5.20 ERA in 16 starts with Ramos catching this season.

New York enters this week’s action with a 77-72 record and four games out of the final wild card spot in the National League. Appeasing its ace pitcher is probably the right move for now.
