Diamondbacks’ SP Taijuan Walker to make 2019 debut in team’s final game

After working all season to come back from Tommy John surgery and a shoulder sprain, Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Taijuan Walker will start the team’s final game on Sunday.

Walker underwent TJS in April 2018 after making just three starts to open the season. The righty spent more than a year working his way back from the major reconstructive surgery and neared a return in May 2019 before a sprained shoulder capsule sidelined him again.

The 27-year-old hurler threw a bullpen session earlier this month and recently received clearance from the medical staff to rejoin the team’s rotation.

While Walker is expected to only throw an inning as the team’s opening starter, it will be a meaningful moment for him given everything he overcame to reach this point. He is eligible for arbitration for the final time this offseason.
