Colts GM on Jacoby Brissett: ‘He will not flinch’

Jacoby Brissett

About a week after receiving the shocking news that Andrew Luck had decided to retire, the Indianapolis Colts are preparing for the regular season.

It starts next Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers and will include veteran Jacoby Brissett taking over as the Colts’ starting quarterback.

Indianapolis has had a lot of confidence in Brissett after acquiring him in a trade from the New England Patriots ahead of the 2017 season.

While Brissett is nowhere near the same level as Luck in terms of overall talent, the Colts seem to be high on him heading into the season.

General manager Chris Ballard took to the media during a press conference following Indy’s roster cuts and had nothing but praise for Brissett.

The Colts are clearly staying with Brissett as their starter following Luck’s retirement. Ballard did note that they plan to bring in a top backup until Chad Kelly returns from suspension.

Indianapolis has wokred out the likes of Brandon Weeden, Brock Osweiler and Matt Cassell, among others, since Luck’s retirement.

For his part, Brissett posted a 4-11 record in 15 starts with Luck sidelined to injury back in 2017. That span saw him put up just 13 touchdowns compared to seven interceptions.
