Report: ‘Disrepected’ Ezekiel Elliott remains in Mexico, no progress in contract talks

It was noted this past weekend that the Dallas Cowboys and holdout running back Ezekiel Elliott had made progress in contract extension talks.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones then decided to open his mouth and throw shade at Elliott following the Cowboys’ preseason game Saturday night.

It now appears that Elliott has taken offense to that comment.

It drew a few laughs but neither @EzekielElliott nor agent Rocky Arceneaux found @Cowboys Jerry Jones' quip "Zeke who?" as amusing. Arceneaux: "I didn't think it was funny and neither did Zeke – we actually thought it was disrespectful."

Equally as important, ESPN’s Chris Mortensen goes on to note that Elliott remains in Mexico training and that there’s no real activity when it comes to negotiations.

Jones’ comments came after fourth-round rookie free agent Tony Pollard put up 42 yards and a touchdown on five attempts in the win over the Los Angeles Rams. He’s started both of the Cowboys’ preseason games in Elliott’s stead.

Dallas’ long-time owner has not been afraid to throw Elliott under the bus during his holdout. Whether this latest example changes the dynamics moving forward remains to be seen. But it can’t help.
