Report: Irving, Durant pushing for Nets to sign Carmelo Anthony

It’s been somewhat of a foregone conclusion around the NBA world that future Hall of Famer Carmelo Anthony’s career is over.

The 10-time All-Star has been absolutely atrocious in recent seasons. Last year alone, he played in a total of 10 games with the Houston Rockets before being jettisoned from town.

However, one team might have interest in the veteran forward. Specifically, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant of the Brooklyn Nets are pushing their new club to sign Melo.

“The Brooklyn Nets remain interested in potentially signing Anthony, who recently trained with a group of their players in Los Angeles, including Kyrie Irving,” Frank Isola of The Athletic reported Thursday. “In fact, one source told The Athletic that Irving and Kevin Durant, who both joined the Nets in July, are ‘pushing’ the club to sign Anthony”

Brooklyn’s interest in Anthony could make more sense now that fellow forward Wilson Chandler has been suspended 25 games for violating the NBA’s PED policy. Remember, Durant is expected to miss the entire 2019-20 season with an Achilles injury.

Anthony, 35, is averaging 24.0 points and 6.5 rebounds during his 16-year career. He’d likely come on a veteran minimum deal.
