Phillies P Jake Arrieta expects to miss remainder of the season

Jake Arrieta

Philadelphia Phillies starter and former Cy Young winner Jake Arrieta has been dealing with a bone spur in his pitching elbow since early July.

The veteran has attempted to pitch through it since. But following an outing against the San Francisco Giants in which he yielded five earned runs, it looks like Arrieta will have to undergo season-ending surgery.

Despite his struggles, this has to be considered bad news for the Phillies. They headed into Wednesday’s action with a 61-58 record and two games out of the final wild card spot in the National League.

A former NL Cy Young winner with the Chicago Cubs back in 2015, Arrieta is pitching to an 8-8 record with a 4.64 ERA and 1.47 WHIP this season.
