Josh Gordon placed on NFI list after conditional reinstatement

The New England Patriots officially welcomed Josh Gordon back into the fold Sunday following his conditional reinstatement by the NFL.

The Patriots waived receiver Dontrelle Inman to make room for Gordon, whom they then placed on the non-football injury list.

Gordon was suspended indefinitely last year by the NFL for violating the league’s substances of abuse policy. Following rehabilitation and counseling, he was reinstated by the league last week and is eligible to play for the Patriots in Week 1.

Likely, Gordon’s stay on the the NFI list will be a short one. He hasn’t been with the Patriots at all since being suspended and isn’t likely in playing shape. Once he gets there, he’ll provide some significant oomph to New England’s offense.

Last year, appearing in 12 games, he hauled in 40 passes for 720 yards and three touchdowns.
