Ron Rivera provides positive Cam Newton injury update

Cam Newton is working hard to get himself ready for Week 1 after spraining his foot during the Carolina Panthers’ third preseason game.

On Monday, head coach Ron Rivera provided a positive injury update on his star quarterback, noting Newton threw the ball during practice and that his “workload should steadily increase,” per Max Henson of Panthers.com.

The Panthers have been “cautiously optimistic” that Newton will be healthy enough to start come Week 1 against the Los Angeles Rams. Certainly, their chances of winning that game against a very tough NFC opponent will be better if he can.

Coming off an injury-shortened 2018 campaign, Newton needs to stay healthy and get back to dominating once more if the Panthers are going to live up to their potential. Unfortunately, the team’s offensive line appears to once more be an Achilles heel.

This is a storyline we’re going to be following all season long. Stay tuned.
