49ers GM: No timetable on Nick Bosa return, cutting it ‘very close’ to play in Week 1

Nick Bosa

The San Francisco 49ers may start the season without No. 2 overall pick Nick Bosa, who’s been out of commission with a significant ankle sprain for the past couple of weeks.

During the pre-game broadcast on ESPN Monday night, general manager John Lynch conceded the team has no timetable on Bosa’s return, and that he’s cutting it “very close” regarding a return in time for Week 1.

Bosa has now suffered two injuries since being selected second overall out of Ohio State by San Francisco. He missed most of the team’s offseason program with a hamstring injury, and now he’s out with the ankle.

On top of that, Bosa missed most of his final campaign with the Buckeyes after suffering a significant core muscle injury that required surgery.

Needless to say, the 49ers are sure hoping Bosa is not injury prone after giving up such a high draft pick to select him.
