Patriots among those interested in Pro Bowler Mike Daniels, per report

The Green Bay Packers’ surprising decision to release Pro Bowl defensive tackle Mike Daniels on Wednesday caught a lot of people by surprise.

Despite coming off an injury-plagued 2018 campaign, the 30-year-old Daniels remains one of the best interior defenders in the entire NFL.

Needless to say, there’s going to be a lot of interest in his services as training camps get going around the NFL.

According to NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo, Green Bay spoke to the New England Patriots, Kansas City Chiefs and Cleveland Browns about trading Daniels before releasing him. All three are said to be interested in his services.

The Pats are an interesting fit in that they lost starting defensive tackle Malcom Brown to the New Orleans Saints in free agency.

As of right now, Lawrence Guy and Danny Shelton are slated to start on the inside this season. That’s a less than stellar duo.

A fourth-round pick of the Packers back in 2012, Daniels recorded 14 quarterbacks hits and five sacks en route to earning Pro Bowl honors back in 2017. He missed six games to injury this past season.
