Jason Pierre-Paul expected to open year on Non-Football Injury list

Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

Tampa Bay Buccaneers pass rusher Jason Pierre-Paul is expected to open camp, and the 2019 season, on the team’s Non-Football Injury list, per Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times.

Stroud noted that “no determination has been announced,” but the expectation is that the Bucs will put him on the NFI list.

Pierre-Paul suffered a cervical fracture during a single-car accident back in May, and recently he shared video showing he is still wearing a bulky neck brace.

Following the diagnosis, Pierre-Paul opted not to have surgery. Instead, he is hoping his neck heals on its own, and there is a chance he could play at some point for the Bucs this season.

Last season, the former New York Giants defender had a strong impact on the Bucs, registering 58 tackles and 12.5 sacks, which was the highest total for him since the 2014 campaign.
