There’s been some rumors floating around NBA circles that Golden State Warriors star guard Klay Thompson could take a visit with the Los Angeles Clippers in free agency.

The only way this might happen is if Golden State refuses to offer its injured star a full five-year, $190 million contract.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, that’s unlikely to happen. Charania reports that the two sides are expected to come to terms on a max deal this weekend.

“The Warriors and free-agent All-Star Klay Thompson will meet in L.A. this week at the outset of free agency, league sources said,” Charania reported. “Should the Warriors enter the meeting with the five-year, $190 million maximum contract, both sides expect a quick agreement, according to sources.”

There’s been no indication that the Warriors would hold off on offering a max deal.

Thompson suffered a torn ACL during Game 6 of the NBA Finals. He’s likely sidelined through the All-Star Break.

Despite this, it has always seemed to be a foregone conclusion that Thompson would re-sign with the Warriors. He wants to finish his career in Northern California.
