Lakers headed to Brooklyn to recruit Kyrie Irving, per report

Kyrie Irving LeBron James NBA All-Star Game Cleveland Cavaliers

It has long been a foregone conclusion that All-Star guard Kyrie Irving was headed to the Brooklyn Nets. Multiple reports have indicated that he’s set to sign a max contract with Brooklyn once free agency opens Sunday evening.

Despite these rumors, the Los Angeles Lakers are apparently shooting their shot. According to Joe Vardon of the Athletic, Los Angeles is sending one of its “top recruiters” to Brooklyn on the heels of free agency.

One could only guess who the recruiter is. But we would not be surprised if it were none other than Irving’s former teammate, LeBron James.

Talk about something coming full circle. It was just two years ago that Irving requested a trade from the Cleveland Cavaliers. He didn’t want to exist under James’ shadow anymore. It led to a drama-filled departure from Cleveland.

Fast forward two years, and the Lakers are pitching the possibility of Irving team up with both King James and Anthony Davis.
