The Chicago Cubs are calling up prized prospect Addison Russell.

Shortstop Addison Russell returned to the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday. And while he was at home, the Wrigley Field faithful didn’t exactly greet him with open arms.

When Russell came to the plate for the first time, he received a mixed reaction. While there were some cheers, the boos were louder.

This is Russell’s first game back in the majors since he was suspended for allegedly abusing his ex-wife. So, some boos were to be expected.

Prior to the game, team president Theo Epstein even noted (per Jordan Bastain, MLB.com) that Russell shouldn’t expect a warm reception.

With that in mind, it’s definitely not surprising.

Obviously, when he goes on the road, they’ll be even louder. But even at home, Russell should expect boos for a long time going forward.
