Pro Bowler Ziggy Ansah gets positive update on shoulder injury, per report

Free agent defensive end Ziggy Ansah has remained unsigned throughout the offseason after undergoing shoulder surgery. That could soon change.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, Ansah got a great report on his recovery after visiting with Dr. Neal ElAttrache on Monday and should be fully cleared by mid-August.

Rapoport also noted that Ansah just wrapped up a visit with the Baltimore Ravens, who are certainly in the market after losing Za’Darius Smith and Terrell Suggs in free agency.

Ansah, when healthy, is among the more disruptive defensive ends in the NFL. He’s had a few poor campaigns but has still managed to rack up 48 sacks in six years, earning a Pro Bowl invite in 2015. Last year, he signed the franchise tag in Detroit, earning just over $17 million guaranteed.

Unfortunately, Ansah was only able to play in seven games last season due to his shoulder injury and was placed in injured reserve. It stands to reason that he’ll have to take a short-term, prove-it deal this offseason due to his history of injury.
