Seahawks WR Doug Baldwin might be forced into retirement

The Seattle Seahawks selected former Mississippi star receiver D.K. Metcalf in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft Friday night. Most expected that this pick was made to team him up with Pro Bowler Doug Baldwin, among other key weapons, for Russell Wilson.

Unfortunately, the pick might have been made to replace Baldwin. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the 30-year-old Baldwin might be forced into retirement after suffering through multiple injuries in his career.

“This off-season alone, the Pro-Bowl wide receiver has undergone surgery on his groin and shoulder,” the ESPN insider noted. “It is believed that Baldwin would like to continue playing, but he simply may not be able to, per sources. The Seahawks know he could be facing the end of his career.”

This is some real bad news for both the pass catcher and his team. An undrafted free agent out of Stanford back in 2011, Baldwin has morphed into one of the most consistent receivers in the game.

Prior to suffering through multiple injuries in 2018, Baldwin had averaged 82 receptions for 1063 yards and about 10 touchdowns over the past three seasons.
