Tyrann Mathieu thinks Russell Wilson ‘wants New York’

Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks are coming up on his self-imposed April 15 deadline and have yet to agree on an extension, which could make things very interesting next winter.

Assuming that Wilson’s deadline actually means something and that it’s not just hot air, and assuming he does cut off negotiations as he’s reportedly threatened to do if no agreement is struck by said deadline, then Wilson could be forcing Seattle into a tight spot ahead of the 2020 season.

Certainly, Seattle would use the franchise tag to secure Wilson’s rights, keeping him from hitting free agency. Yet there have been whispers that he is actually eyeing a move to the East Coast, and specifically, to the Big Apple.

Throwing more fuel on that fire, one of Wilson’s NFL peers, Kansas City Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu seems to believe that Wilson “wants New York.”

New York in this instance certainly means the Giants. The Jets already have the quarterback of the future in Sam Darnold. The Giants, meanwhile, feature a washed-up Eli Manning and no real backup plan to speak of at this point in time.

Obviously this is the NFL’s silly season, and much of what comes out of the rumor mill during this time of year can’t be trusted. Yet given the fact this rumor keeps popping up, and that Wilson seems to love New York, there might just be some truth to it.
