Robbie Gould asks for trade, tells 49ers he won’t sign long-term deal

It’s not quite a trade demand, but placekicker Robbie Gould has issued quite the ultimatum to the San Francisco 49ers with a trade request.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter added (on Twitter) that Gould “has pulled his contract proposals that he sent to San Francisco and told the team he will not negotiate or sign a long-term deal with them.”

There have been reports for months that Gould would like to get back to Chicago, rather than sign with the 49ers.

Just yesterday, 49ers general manager John Lynch said there was no doubt that Gould would be with the team this year.

Apparently, something changed.

The second-best kicker in NFL history, Gould has made 87.745 percent of his kicks.

He was with the Chicago Bears from 2005-15, when they released him to much surprise. After one year with the New York Giants, he signed with San Francisco and has made all but three of his 75 attempts the past two seasons.
