Magic Johnson resigns as Lakers’ president

Magic Johnson’s tenure atop the Los Angeles’ Lakers front office lasted just over two years.

Johnson held a surprise press conference Tuesday in Southern California to announce that he has re-signed from the position.

This seemingly came completely out of left field. A report earlier on Tuesday noted that Johnson had not been in contact with embattled Lakers head coach Luke Walton recently.

Johnson’s decision to step down from his role comes as the Lakers are finishing up what has been among the most-disappointing seasons in recent franchise history.

It also comes after he failed to land LeBron James help during the NBA’s trade deadline in February.

We’ll have much more on this story as it develops. For now, the widespread changes we expected in Los Angeles have started with a boom.
