Report: Would be a surprise if Rob Gronkowski retired

Just like last offseason, the future of New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is in question.

The veteran tight end is currently contemplating whether to return for a 10th season or retire into the sunset. Though, the latter seems to be a bit questionable according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Schefter had this to share about Gronk after speaking on WEEI’s Mut & Callahan radio show.

“There is no decision yet, not that I know of,” he said. “… I think if you are a Patriots fan, or with the Patriots, I think you have to feel encouraged. We’re now a month out of the Super Bowl, we haven’t heard anything, Schefter said, per WEEI Sports Radio Network. It seems like business as usual. I think right now I would be [more] surprised if Gronk retired than if he came back. And at the end of the season there was a lot of talk of him retiring, right? So, there’s nothing official, but I think every sign that we’ve seen, every sense that we’ve felt has been positive. I think it is trending the right way, but we obviously have to hear from the man himself on a decision.”

That certainly is a lot of input and speculation there from Schefter. Soon enough, Gronk will let his fans and his team know of his decision.

Health issues have plagued Gronkowski throughout his career that began in 2010. Last year in particular, Gronk’s numbers took a nosedive. He managed only 47 catches for 682 yards and three touchdowns.

Perhaps this decline in production will serve as an inspiration for Gronk to want to finish his career on a high note.
