Raiders to officially play in Oakland next season

It has been reported for some time now that the Raiders would remain in Oakland for one more season before relocating to Las Vegas.

That’s now official. The Oakland Coliseum Authority voted on Friday to approve a new lease that will keep the Raiders at that facility for the 2019 season.

It had previously been noted that said lease calls for a 2020 option should the Las Vegas stadium not be ready for that season.

This comes after months of speculation that the Raiders would leave Oakland one year early. Santa Clara and San Francisco were both seen as possible temporary locations for the Raiders in Northern California. Meanwhile, Sam Boyd Stadium on the outskirts of Las Vegas was also another viable option.

It remains to be been just how this dynamic is going to play out in Oakland. It could be one big block party with die-hard fans paying their respects to the organization. It could also be pretty ugly — much like what we’ve seen with the then Baltimore Colts and Cleveland Browns in the past.

Stay tuned!
