The Arizona Cardinals were pretty much the worst team in the NFL this past season —finishing with a 3-13 record and the league’s lowest-scoring offense.
Hoping to end his career on a higher note, future Hall of Fame wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald shared his thoughts about playing for another season in Arizona.
“We had a really bad season last year and I just didn’t want to go out on that level,” Fitzgerald said on the podcast, via the Cardinals’ team website (h/t Grant Gordon of NFL.com). “You’ve got to live the rest of your life knowing you went out on that level.”
In 2018, Fitzgerald put forth his best effort, but working with a rookie quarterback behind a terrible offensive line and awful coaching did not help his case.
Now, Fitzgerald can only hope that a new head coach makes a big difference. And, he’ll either be working with Josh Rosen entering his second year or another rookie in that of Kyler Murray.
We would like to share in Fitzgerald’s enthusiasm that 2019 will be better. But the question marks in place seem to suggest that the Cardinals will remain a big work in progress moving forward.
Fitzgerald will be entering his 16th year in the league after being selected by Arizona third overall in 2004. For this, he is the team’s all-time receiving leader with 1,303 receptions, 16,279 yards and 116 touchdowns on record.
However the Cardinals finish in 2019, Fitzgerald remains a big winner in our book.
