Jaguars cut multiple veterans, save millions against the cap

The Jacksonville Jaguars needed to make a ton of roster moves in order to add a starting quarterback and improve a roster that disappointed big time last season.

That process reportedly started on Friday with Jacksonville releasing four key veterans. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Jacksonville moved on from running back Carlos Hyde, defensive lineman Malik Jackson and safety Tashaun Gipson.

Those three moves save the team north of $26 million in cap room. NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport went on to note that Jacksonville also released starting right tackle Jermey Parnell — saving another $6 million in cap room.

It’s rather clear that Jacksonville is working to add a quarterback under center. Said signal caller will likely be former Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles once free agency opens up on March 13.

Jacksonville now has about $35 million in cap room to work with. That will increase once the team releases Blake Bortles at the start of free agency.
