Falcons place franchise tag on Grady Jarrett

It is that time of the year that NFL franchises begin tagging the players that they want to keep and hopefully, eventually work out long-term deals.

Next to be tagged this busy Monday is Atlanta Falcons defensive tackle, Grady Jarrett.

Falcons general manager explained his team’s current situation with Jarrett.

“As we have said since the end of the season, getting a deal done with Grady is our priority,” Dimitroff said, per Will McFadden of the team’s official website. “Applying the franchise tag to him does not change that in any way. Our aim is for Grady to be an integral part of our plan for many years to come and this allows us to extend our negotiating window.”

The tag they are placing on Jarrett would pay him $15.21 million in 2019 if the two sides do not come to terms on a long-term contract.

Jarrett was selected by the Falcons in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL Draft. He has so far recorded 14 sacks, 179 combined tackles 40 total quarterback hits.

Jarrett turns a mere 26 years old in April.
