Before Landon Collins agreed to his mega deal with Washington, a report emerged indicating Dave Gettleman had turned down a first-round pick for the star safety before the trade deadline last season.
On Monday during his press conference to discuss New York’s turbulent offseason, Gettleman adamantly disputed that report, saying, “The rumor that we were offered a first-round pick for Landon Gollins isn’t even remotely accurate.”
Gettleman did acknowledge, however, that the Giants did receive plenty of interest from other teams inquiring about Collins before the deadline.
Gettleman: "Did we have teams call on Landon (during the season)? Yes. But at that point in time it wasn't what I thought he was worth… I didn't think the value was there, so that's why we didn't do it."

Despite Gettleman’s reasoning here, even if the team wasn’t going to get a first-round pick in exchange for the star safety, it might have gotten better compensation than it will eventually net in a compensatory pick.
The way this entire situation was handled, in addition to a string of other bad moves, does not shine a positive light on Gettleman’s tenure as the general manager for Big Blue.
