Clayton Kershaw to open season on injured list

Manager Dave Roberts announced on Tuesday that the Los Angeles Dodgers will be without Clayton Kershaw to start the regular season.

Citing Roberts, Pedro Moura of The Athletic noted that Kershaw, who is dealing with an injury to his left shoulder, will begin the season on the injured list.

Kershaw has been dealing with the injury through the spring. On Monday, Roberts said that his ace would not be available for Opening Day. So, it’s definitely not surprising that he’s starting the year on the shelf.

How long the stay on the injured list will be remains to be seen. Moura noted that Kershaw will be held out of the final spring training games against the Los Angeles Angels. That will enable the Dodgers to backdate his stay on the injured list.

This will be the fourth consecutive season and fifth of the last six in which Kershaw has seen time on the injured list.
