Anthony Davis being held out by Pelicans at least through trade deadline

Anthony Davis trade

Anthony Davis was listed as “available” on the New Orleans Pelicans injury report Wednesday morning for the team’s game against Chicago.

So, he’s healthy enough to play.

However, the Pelicans aren’t going to let Davis play until after the trade deadline, head coach Alvin Gentry announced on Wednesday.

Of course, this somewhat corroborates a Yahoo Sports report indicating the team held Davis out of Monday night’s game, despite him pushing to get back onto the court.

One wonders, even if he’s not traded by the deadline, if the Pelicans are going to risk playing him at all the rest of the season. Gentry’s comments last week on the matter left that very much up in the air, and the risk of injury could doom the Pelicans to a fate they don’t want to consider as they attempt to move the star big man.

On that note, it appears the Los Angeles Lakers are out of the sweepstakes, for now at least. The Pelicans are playing an interesting game with the league right now, and it really seems like nobody has any real notion about what will happen in the end.
