Report: Knicks called Pelicans about Kristaps Porzingis for Anthony Davis swap

Prior to moving Kristaps Porzingis to the Dallas Mavericks in a blockbuster seven-player trade on Thursday, the New York Knicks reportedly called up the New Orleans Pelicans about swapping Porzingis for disgruntled center Anthony Davis.

According to ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne, the Pelicans were not interested in Porzingis.

“The Knicks did call New Orleans about Anthony Davis, a source told ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne, but the Pelicans weren’t interested in the Latvian,” the report read.

By now it’s well known that Davis has requested a trade from the Pelicans. While it’s not known if a trade will be worked out before next week’s deadline, the Los Angeles Lakers have put together one heck of a package.

At issue here is the torn ACL Porzingis suffered last season. He has yet to return to the court. That would’ve been a mighty big risk for the Pelicans to take on, especially given how much Davis will ultimately net in a trade.

As for the Knicks, they picked up headliners such as DeAndre Jordan and Dennis Smith Jr. as well as two future first-round picks from the Mavericks for Porzingis. Though, it’s no like those draft picks will do this team any good.
