A three-time All-Star during his 13-year MLB career, John Wetteland is known for being able to close out games with the best of them. It earned him the 1996 World Series MVP as a member of the New York Yankees.

Now 52 years old, the Northern California native is in the news for all the wrong reasons.

Authorities in Texas arrested Wetteland on charges of continuous sex abuse of a child under age 14. According to authorities, he was released on $25,000 bond after being arrested.

Further details on the investigation were not released and the Denton County district attorney’s office refused further comment.

But this note gives us an idea of what allegedly happened.

“The Texas Department of Family Services referred the case to Bartonville police Jan. 9, according to Chief Bobby Dowell,” the Dallas Morning News reported. Policed issued a warrant for his arrest, which the Denton County Sheriff’s Office served.”

In addition to his time with the Yankees, Wetteland played four seasons with the Rangers and is in the team’s Hall of Fame.

There’s obviously more to this disturbing story. We’ll keep you updated.
