Report: Chargers likely won’t have Melvin Gordon and Austin Ekeler against Chiefs

The Los Angeles Chargers are not likely to have either Melvin Gordon or Austin Ekeler in their upcoming Thursday night tilt against the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium.

Gordon is still recovering from an MCL injury and likely needs another week to heal up before he’s ready to return. Ekeler suffered a neck injury and was also placed in the league’s concussion protocol after taking a nasty shot on the onside kick late in Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Needless to say, it’s going to be tough for the Chargers to replace the production these two dynamic backs bring on a weekly basis. Rookie Justin Jackson will be called upon to carry a big load, unless the offensive game plan abandons the run and Philip Rivers goes into attack mode through the air.

Chances are, the Chargers are going to need a ton of points going against Kansas City. It’s going to be fascinating to see what offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt draws up.
