Report: Josh McDaniels could be candidate for Browns job

Josh McDaniels rule

The Cleveland Browns will spend the next couple months coming up with a list of options to replace recently fired head coach Hue Jackson next season.

While Gregg Williams is the current interim coach, previous reports noted that there’s almost no chance he’ll be retained in a full-time capacity. Instead, general manager John Dorsey and Co. will be looking outside the organization for that next coach.

According to this report from NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels will once again be interested in a head coaching job this winter and could be a candidate for the Browns’ opening.

This is noteworthy in that McDaniels had verbally agreed to become the Indianapolis Colts’ head coach last offseason before pulling out at the last minute.

It created a firestorm around the league, with new Colts head coach Frank Reich honoring the contracts that assistants under the would be head coach had signed before McDaniels pulled a 180 and returned to the Patriots.

At this point, we have no real idea how many teams would be interested in McDaniels after the drama of last winter. But it appears the Browns will be one.
