Nick Mullens to start at QB for the 49ers on Thursday

The one-win San Francisco 49ers will have their third different starting quarterback of the season when they host the equally lowly Oakland Raiders on Thursday Night Football.

With stopgap starter C.J. Beathard dealing with a wrist injury, fellow second-year quarterback Nick Mullens will get the call to start under center.

An undrafted free agent out of Southern Mississippi last year, this will be Mullens’ first ever appearance in a regular season game.

He started the season on the practice squad, but was elevated to the 53-man roster when Jimmy Garoppolo went down to a torn ACL back in Week 3.

Mullens, 23, was a four-year starter in college. He threw for 11,994 total yards with 87 touchdowns and 46 interceptions.
