Heisman candidate Gardner Minshew will participate in Senior Bowl

Washington State might have fallen short of the College Football Playoff following a loss to Washington in the Apple Cup this past weekend. In no way does that mean senior quarterback Gardner Minshew didn’t put up one heck of a regular season.

Likely heading to New York City as a Heisman Trophy finalist, Minshew heads into bowl season having thrown for 4,477 yards with 36 touchdowns and nine interceptions en route to leading the Cougars to a 10-2 record.

Off the radar of the scouting community following a transfer from East Carolina last season, the 6-foot-2 Minshew has now created some buzz.

It’s in this that he’s been invited to, and will play, in the coming Senior Bowl in Mobile this coming January. Minshew made the announcement via his official Twitter account.

Generally speaking, “Air Raid” quarterbacks have not had a ton of success in the NFL. Playing under pretty much the architect of the modern variation of that offense, Mike Leach, Minshew fits that definition to a T.

Even then, the success we’ve seen from Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City this season could lay the groundwork for Minshew to jump up the draft boards.

His initial opportunity will be at the Senior Bowl, followed by the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. It’s certainly something to watch heading into the 2019 NFL Draft.
