Dodgers reportedly nearing extension with manager Dave Roberts

The Los Angeles Dodgers are reportedly nearing an extension with embattled manager Dave Roberts after the team lost in the World Series for a second consecutive season.

This information comes from Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic and will have wide-ranging ramifications moving forward for the organization.

On one hand, Roberts has helped Los Angeles overcome the hump in the National League since taking over as manager back in 2016. The team has earned three consecutive NL West titles and has come out of the National League in each of the past two seasons.

The issue here is in-game decisions from Roberts, something that came to the forefront during Los Angeles’ World Series loss to the Boston Red Sox this season.

All of this comes with the Dodgers’ front office potentially in flux. General manager Farhan Zaidi has been courted by the hated San Francisco Giants to take on a larger role in Northern California. He might very well end up running things in San Francisco moving forward.

It also comes with the Dodgers in need of upgrades throughout their roster if they hope to compete with the top teams in the American League in 2019 and beyond.

Apparently, the brass in Southern California has confidence in Roberts being the man to lead this thing moving forward.
